A day in the life of a special event florist

Shawna and Roger January 27, 2010

Shawna and Roger were married last June at Frasinetti’s Winery, the couple’s favorite date-night location.  They wanted their overall look to be very romantic and elegant.  It’s really great to be able to work with a couple that is SO obviously head-over-heels for each other.  Thanks for including me in your lovefest, guys!  Congratulations!

Winter Wonderland in August

Rachel and Gilbert were married at St Clare’s Church in Roseville and held their reception at the Library Galleria downtown.  The first time I met with Rachel she knew exactly what she wanted…bright, summery colors for her ceremony…and cool, white flowers for her Winter Wonderland reception.  She knew the weather would be scorching hot so she wanted her guests to feel cool and comfortable when they walked into the reception venue.  They used a lot of blue uplighting as well as blue LED lights on the tables and in the tall flower arrangements.  The lower centerpieces were arranged in my round, mirrored containers.  The thought might sound odd at first.  I know a lot of people aren’t fans of mirrors.  But these containers are truly beautiful…trust me:-)

Erica and Vervest

Erica and Vervest were married at the Lake Natoma Inn in July.  While I don’t normally like to dye/color flowers, Erica was very insistent about what she wanted…blue flowers that could be submerged underwater for the centerpieces.  So, I gave it a test and I have to admit that Erica knew what she was talking about.  I used Bombay dendrobium orchids and dyed them blue.  Since the flower already had a fuscia color to them, the addition of the blue actually looked quite natural.

Nicole and Joey

Nicole and Joey were married at St Rose Church in Roseville and held their reception at Granite Bay Golf Club.  The had a really beautiful and dramatic color scheme of burgundy and eggplant.  Nicole and I came up with a really great idea to have the church’s pew decorations double as centerpieces for the reception.

Heather and Danny

Heather and Danny were married at Granite Bay Golf Club in September.  Their wedding was very chic and sophisticated with a color palette of soft green and chocolate brown.  I guess I didn’t take pictures of the bridal party bouquets because I can’t seem to find any.  Below you can see the ceremony set-up and the reception table arrangements.

Lilies in the summer January 20, 2010

Here are some arrangements I made for Susy and Jesus’ wedding last September.  They had such a large wedding with so many guest tables, we really had to figure out how to create a budget friendly centerpiece.  We ended up using cylinder vases with a few stems of Asiatic lilies and fresh curly willow in the center.  Each arrangement had it’s own color scheme, either yellow, orange, burgundy or rust.  Layering the lilies on the cake looked really awesome.

Brittany and David

Brittany and David were married at Le Rivage Hotel in June.  From our very first conversation Brittany knew exactly what she wanted…dark red roses, black calla lilies, green hydrangea and hanging amaranthus.  She was worried that the dramatic color scheme wouldn’t be “summery” enough but I thought the flowers and colors were a perfect compliment to the amazing venue.  This was such a sweet and easy couple to work with…THANKS guys!

I took some of the pictures below but J Orfano’s Photography provided the nice ones:-)

Mareisa and Wazi

Mareisa and Wazi were married at the Lake Natoma Inn in July.  They were such a cute, fun couple to work with.  The first time I met with them I learned that their color scheme was blue and chocolate brown.  Mareisa explained that those colors were her very favorite so I wasn’t surprised that they also happened to be the same colors Mareisa was wearing that day.  Pretty funny!  Since Wazi had family that grew coffee beans, and brown was a main color in the wedding, we decided to incorporate coffee beans into the decoration as much as possible.  You’ll notice them submerged in the vases as well as inside the candle cups.
